Pick a number or build it one digit at a time
Use this random number wheel for a game, numbered tickets or math practice. Choose a range for one whole number, or build a result with 2 to 6 digits. Mystery keeps the selected result hidden until you choose Reveal number.
How to use the Numbers wheel
Choose how to make your number
Pick a number starts with 1 through 10 and Step 1. Use a quick range or enter your own bounds. Choose Build a number to fill separate digit positions instead.
Spin the wheel
Select Spin in the center, or focus it and press Enter or Space. In range mode, one spin picks a whole number. In Build, each spin fills the next digit from left to right.
Read your result and continue
The pointer and result follow the selected number. Close keeps a finished pick. Results lists completed picks. With Mystery on, choose Reveal number before making another pick.
Set the numbers on your wheel
Pick a number generates a list from Minimum, Step and Maximum. Each number still available in that list has the same chance on the next draw.
Start with a quick range
Choose 1 to 6, 1 to 10, 1 to 20, 1 to 50 or 1 to 100. A preset sets Minimum to 1 and Step to 1, changes Maximum and clears exclusions.
For a classroom number picker from 1 to 30, enter Minimum 1, Step 1 and Maximum 30. Press Enter or leave the field to apply a valid edit.
Choose a range and interval
Enter whole numbers for Minimum and Maximum. Step is the positive distance between choices. With Minimum 2, Step 2 and Maximum 10, the choices are 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10.
The list starts at Minimum and stops at the last step that fits. Minimum 1, Step 2 and Maximum 10 gives 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Maximum is included only when a step lands on it. Use Step 2 with Minimum 1 for odd numbers or Minimum 2 for even numbers.
Use negative numbers or a large range
Bounds can run from -1000000 through 1000000. Maximum must be at least Minimum. Step accepts a whole number from 1 through 1000000. Decimals are not accepted.
A range can generate up to 10,000 choices on desktop or phone. This limit is checked before exclusions. Increase Step or narrow the bounds if the generated list is too large. Equal bounds make a valid one-number wheel.
On a dense wheel, number labels may be too small to display. Those choices stay in the draw. After a normal pick or Reveal, read the full value in the summary or Results.
Leave specific numbers out
Expand Exclude numbers and enter individual whole numbers separated by commas, spaces or new lines. For example, 7, 13 leaves out those two numbers. Enter 1000 without a thousands separator. Range notation such as 7-13 is not accepted.
Repeated exclusions have the same effect as one. Values outside the generated list are ignored. At least one choice must remain. The field accepts up to 100,000 characters. Clear empties it and reapplies the range.
When a range change starts a new round
Range and exclusion edits apply when you press Enter or leave the field. Valid changes save automatically to the working wheel in this browser.
If the generated choices change, the current results and removals clear for a new round. Undo restores the earlier setup and round. An edit that produces exactly the same choices keeps the round. A changed rule also clears a pending hidden pick, with Undo available.
Fix an invalid range edit
A local error identifies the field to correct. The last valid wheel, results and removals stay in place while you edit. Spinning, saving and exporting need a valid setup.
Fix the field and press Enter or leave it. Undo first discards an unfinished edit. Changing a picture or sound does not apply an invalid number draft. Only the applied valid setup is saved, so do not rely on reloading to keep an unfinished range edit.
Generate random digits with Build a number
Build a number selects each position separately and joins the digits in order. A four-digit build fills Thousands, Hundreds, Tens and Ones from left to right.
Choose 2 through 6 digits
Select Build a number, then choose Digits. New setups use four positions. You can choose two through six.
Each place starts with digits 0 through 9 available, except that the first place excludes zero unless Allow leading zero is on. Range exclusions and Remove each winner after picking do not apply in Build.
Fill the next place with Spin
Spin fills the next empty position. The progress text identifies the place and how many digits are filled. Empty positions are not zeros.
Each digit is selected independently from its own allowed values. A digit can appear more than once, and a complete number can appear again in a later build. The completed string enters Results once. Partial builds do not count as completed picks.
Fill the remaining places automatically
Fill automatically spins the remaining positions using your selected duration and speed for each digit. It finishes one number and stops. It does not keep generating whole numbers.
Stop filling lets the digit already selected finish, then cancels later digits. Fill automatically resumes a partial build. After a completed, revealed build, Spin starts the first digit of the next number, while Fill automatically starts one new complete build.
Opening a dialog or hiding the tab stops further automatic filling. Selected progress remains. Start Fill automatically again when you are ready. The range auto-spin pause does not apply to Build.
Set the range for an individual digit
Expand Advanced to see a Minimum and Maximum for each active place. Use whole digits from 0 through 9, with Maximum at least Minimum.
To make a four-digit number beginning with 3 or 4, set the Thousands bounds to 3 and 4. The other places keep their own bounds. A single allowed digit, such as 5 through 5, fixes that position.
When leading zero is off, the first place must allow a digit from 1 through 9. First-place bounds of 0 through 0 show an error. Include a nonzero digit or turn on Allow leading zero.
Keep results such as 0047
Turn on Allow leading zero when the first position may be zero. The wheel keeps the full digit string, so 0047 stays 0047 in the result, Results and saved wheel files. With zero allowed in every position, 0000 is possible too.
Leading zero is off on new setups. A zero in a later position is allowed either way, subject to that place's bounds.
Change the rules or start another number
Changing mode, Digits, a place bound or Allow leading zero starts a new round and clears its results, partial digits and pending result. Undo restores the prior rules and round.
New round clears progress and completed picks while keeping the applied rules. Completed results stay until New round or a rule change, including when you start building another number. Returning to Pick a number restores its retained range settings.
Choose when to reveal the number
Keep the result hidden until I reveal it controls a selected result. Hide wheel labels is a separate Appearance setting.
Keep a range pick hidden
In Setup, turn on Keep the result hidden until I reveal it before spinning. The selected number stays hidden on the wheel and result surfaces. Reveal number appears in the center and beside the summary.
Choose either Reveal number action to display the number already selected. It does not spin or draw again. Until then, another pick is blocked and the result is kept out of Results. Automatic winner removal waits for Reveal too.
Range auto-spin stops when a hidden result is ready. Reveal the number, then select Start auto-spin again if you want another automatic sequence.
Reveal the completed build together
With Mystery on, selected digits stay masked as each place fills. There is no separate reveal for each digit. After the final digit, Reveal number shows the completed string.
The Mystery checkbox locks while concealed progress or a pending result exists. Finish and reveal the number, or use New round. A mode or rule change can clear it with Undo. A whole wheel picture is temporarily hidden during concealment, without deleting its saved image.
Keep the same pending number
The selected digit or hidden result saves before its animation finishes. Reloading can skip the motion while retaining that selection. Closing a dialog or leaving Full screen does not choose a replacement.
Save, Open and downloaded wheel files retain partial or pending state. Recovery does not automatically play result feedback. Choose Reveal number when ready. Undo after Reveal restores the exact same pending result, so revealing again shows the same number.
Keep picking or start a fresh round
Results lists completed range picks and completed builds. A hidden result is added when revealed.
Read and close a finished pick
The result popup shows the full number. Close dismisses it while keeping the pick. Spin again makes the next range pick or starts the next build.
With Show result popup off, read the range result or completed digit slots in the summary above the controls. Full screen shows the completed number in the wheel area instead. Results records completed picks either way. Individual Build digits do not open popups.
Choose whether range numbers can repeat
In Pick a number, leave Remove each winner after picking off to allow repeats. Each remaining number has the same chance on each draw. A number can appear several times in a row.
Turn it on to keep picked numbers out for the rest of the round. Turning it on after earlier picks also removes those picked values from the available pool. Turning it off makes picked values eligible again, except for manual removals and exclusions. The toggle keeps your recorded results.
When no choices remain, use New round or change the range. These removal rules apply only to range picks, not individual digits or completed builds.
Remove just the number you picked
With automatic removal off, Remove picked entry on the range result popup takes that selected number out of the current pool. It leaves the result in history and does not add it to Exclude numbers.
Undo restores the manual removal. New round restores manually removed numbers too, while keeping exclusions. The manual removal action is hidden in Build and when automatic removal is on.
Read recent results and keep a backup
Select Results for the current round's completed picks, newest first. It displays the latest 100 and retains up to 10,000 completed picks in the round. At the round limit, start a New round before drawing again.
Numbers does not archive earlier rounds when you clear or change one. Save or Download a wheel before replacing a round you need to keep. A partial build and a pending hidden result are kept separately from completed Results.
Restart the round or reverse an action
New round clears current results, progress, pending values and manual removals. It keeps the applied range or build rules, exclusions and customization. A range starts again with all its nonexcluded choices.
Undo reverses recent picks, removals and committed setup changes. In Build it can step back through selected digits. It can also restore a round cleared by New round or a rule change. If a field has an unfinished edit, Undo first discards that draft.
Use Undo promptly for setup changes. The wheel keeps up to ten recent actions for full restoration, with its most recent action retained after reload. Named saves and downloaded files do not include Undo history.
Customize the Numbers wheel
Open Customize in the header for Appearance, Sound, Motion and Saved data. Valid changes save automatically. Done closes Customize after the changes have saved. The close X, Escape or a click outside ordinary settings also closes it.
Find controls on a wide or narrow screen
New, Open, Save and Share link appear in the wide header. In More on a narrow screen, those file actions are New wheel, Open wheel, Save wheel and Share link. Download and Full screen remain header actions. Other tools opens the other wheels.
Mute controls audio separately from Customize. Setup and Results switch the panel between number rules and completed picks.
Choose colors or add a picture
Choose Bright, Ocean or Sunset under Appearance. Theme changes keep the number rules, results and chances.
Center image puts a picture on Spin. Whole wheel image places one behind the labels and slice boundaries. Choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 2 MB and 8,192 pixels per side. The image is cropped to a square from its center, so keep the important part near the middle.
Choose another file to replace a picture, or use Remove center image or Remove wheel image to clear just that picture. Uploads need browser storage. If an image is rejected, check its type, size and dimensions or try another file.
Restore the default appearance
Reset appearance restores Bright, removes both pictures and turns Hide wheel labels off. It keeps number rules, results and partial or pending state.
Mystery continues to conceal a selected number even after appearance changes. Uploaded pictures are included in downloaded wheel files, but are left out of share links.
Choose ticking and the sound after a pick
New wheels have sound enabled at 40% volume, Click while spinning and Applause 2 after a completed pick. An ordinary Spin gesture starts enabled audio. Loading the page does not play sound.
Set the sound level
Enable sound and Volume apply to wheel audio. Volume runs from 0 to 100%. Header Mute keeps your selected sounds while silencing them. Unmute restores 40% if Volume was zero.
To troubleshoot silence, enable sound, raise Volume and choose a sound other than Off. Check the browser's sound permission and the device output. Try Spin or a sound Preview gesture.
Choose and preview each sound
While spinning offers Click, Drum roll, My audio and Off. Click follows the pointer as it crosses segments. Drum roll plays through the spin. Winner sound offers Applause, Applause 2, Ta-da, Chime, My audio and Off.
Off silences only its stage. Preview spin sound or Preview winner sound plays without making a pick. While playing, the action becomes Stop preview. Starting another preview or closing Customize stops the current one.
Upload, replace or remove a sound
Upload separate files for spinning and after a pick. Use an MP3, WAV, Ogg, M4A or WebM up to 5 MB that your browser can play. Uploading selects My audio and shows the saved filename with Replace audio and Remove audio.
Custom spinning audio plays once until its track or the spin ends. Its preview lasts up to three seconds. Winner audio plays once for up to 30 seconds. Both play at normal speed and fade out.
Remove audio detaches that file. If it was selected as My audio, the spinning choice returns to Click or the winner choice to Applause. If My audio has no file, upload one or select another sound. Downloads include uploaded audio.
Change the heading above the number
Enter up to 300 characters in Winner message to change the heading in the result popup. Leave it blank for the default heading. It does not replace or change the selected number.
The winner sound and celebration happen for a completed number. In Mystery, they wait for Reveal. Build does not play winner feedback after each individual digit.
Set the pace and effects
Motion changes how a pick is presented. Duration, speed, pictures and celebration do not change which eligible number is chosen.
Choose how long the wheel spins
Spin duration accepts 1 through 60 seconds, with 10 seconds on a new wheel. Spin speed offers Slow, Normal and Fast. Duration sets the time and speed changes the turning pace within it.
In Build, these settings apply to each digit. A four-digit automatic build uses four spins rather than one spin lasting the selected duration.
Control movement while the wheel waits
Slow rotation when ready is on for a new wheel. It turns the idle wheel gently without making a pick or playing sound. It stops when a spin starts. New round or toggling this setting can start idle movement again.
Your browser or device's reduced-motion preference skips the animated spin, pointer ticking, idle movement and celebrations. The selected result still appears. Use Mute as well if you want silence.
Choose what happens after a result
Celebration offers Confetti 1, Confetti 2, Fireworks, Stars, Color burst and Off. New wheels start with Confetti 2. Celebration and winner sound are separate choices.
Preview celebration shows an effect without making a pick. Use Stop preview to end it. Reduced motion skips the effect. With Show result popup off, read the completed range value or digit slots in the summary above the controls. In Full screen, read the number in the wheel area.
Make repeated range picks
In Pick a number, set Pause between automatic spins from 2 through 60 seconds in Customize. It starts at five seconds. Select Start auto-spin to begin repeated picks.
An open dialog pauses the next range spin. Close result popups or turn Show result popup off to continue without dismissing each one. Fix any invalid range edit before resuming. Auto-spin stops when the pool is empty or the round reaches 10,000 completed picks.
Stop auto-spin ends the sequence and cancels an unfinished ordinary range spin. With Mystery, an already selected hidden value stays pending for Reveal. Escape or hiding the tab stops further automatic picks while the current spin finishes. Reloading does not restart auto-spin.
Use the wheel on a shared screen
The same number rules apply in the ordinary workspace, 3D and Full screen.
Switch the wheel view
Choose 2D or 3D below the wheel. Finish the current spin and stop automatic picks before switching. Leave Full screen to reach the view controls.
The view changes presentation only. Reloading returns to 2D. The view choice is not included in named saves, downloads or share links.
Show the wheel without the surrounding page
Select Full screen for a presentation with the surrounding controls hidden. In Build, the wheel area keeps progress and the completed number visible. A pending Mystery result keeps its Reveal number action on the center button.
Press Escape to return. If Full screen is unavailable in your browser, use the ordinary view.
Use the wheel from the keyboard
Use Tab and Shift+Tab to move between controls. Focus Spin and press Enter or Space to select the next number or digit. A pending result changes that same button to Reveal number.
Press Enter in a number field to apply its edit. When a Setup or Results tab has focus, Left and Right move between tabs, with Home and End selecting the first and last. Escape closes ordinary dialogs and menus, stops further automatic picks and returns from Full screen.
Number picker questions
How do I pick a random number from 1 to 100?
Choose Pick a number, select the 1 to 100 preset and Spin. The preset uses Step 1 and clears exclusions. Each of the 100 values is eligible until removal settings or later edits change the pool.
Is a number picker the same as a random number generator?
Here, the number picker generates the eligible values from your range, then selects one with your browser's cryptographic random number source. The number is chosen before the animation, and the wheel lands on that selection.
Does every number have the same chance?
Each number currently available in range mode has the same chance on the next draw. Removed or excluded numbers cannot be chosen. Build selects independently within the allowed bounds for each place. Theme, pictures, speed and duration do not change those choices.
Can I generate numbers without repeats?
In Pick a number, turn on Remove each winner after picking. Picked values stay out until New round or until you turn the setting off. Manual removals and exclusions remain separate. Build allows repeated digits and repeated complete numbers.
Why is my Maximum not on the wheel?
Step must land on it. Minimum 1, Step 2 and Maximum 10 generates 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Choose a different start, step or maximum if you need the endpoint included.
Can I use negative numbers, zero or decimals?
Zero and negative whole numbers are supported within bounds of -1000000 through 1000000. Step must be a positive whole number. Decimals are not accepted. The generated range must contain at most 10,000 choices before exclusions.
How do I generate a random four-digit number?
Choose Build a number and leave Digits at 4. Spin fills one place at a time, or Fill automatically completes the rest. Leading zero is off by default. Enable it if results such as 0047 should be possible.
Will a result such as 0047 lose its zeros?
No. Build preserves the full digit string in the result, Results and saved or downloaded wheel records. Allow leading zero must be on for the first position to be zero. A range pick is a whole number and does not add leading zeros.
Does Stop filling discard the current digit?
No. The digit already selected finishes, and later automatic digit selections stop. Its progress stays available. Fill automatically can resume the remaining places.
Does Reveal number generate another result?
No. It displays the number already selected. Reload, saved copies and downloaded files retain a pending value. Undo after Reveal restores that same pending result.
Does Hide wheel labels also hide the result?
Hide wheel labels replaces wheel text with question marks where labels fit. Normal results remain visible when Mystery is off. Use Keep the result hidden until I reveal it for a pending result that waits for Reveal number.
How many numbers and results can I keep?
A range may generate up to 10,000 choices before exclusions on desktop or phone. A round retains up to 10,000 completed picks, with the latest 100 shown in Results. Numbers does not keep an archive of replaced rounds. Save or Download one you need before clearing it.
Why did changing a setting clear my numbers?
Changing the eligible range choices, mode, digit count, place bounds or leading-zero rule starts a new round. Undo restores the previous setup and results. Appearance, sound and motion changes keep the round.
Can I use the wheel without sound or animation?
Use Mute for silence. Your browser or device's reduced-motion preference skips the spin animation, idle motion and celebration. These choices keep the selected number and Results working.
Why did my saved wheel not include the latest results?
Automatic saving updates the working wheel. A named Save is a separate snapshot. Save under that name again and confirm replacement to update it. Download also captures the current applied setup and state.
Can I continue a partial or hidden build on another device?
Download the wheel and import its JSON file through Open on the other device. It retains partial or pending state and included media. A share link starts fresh and leaves those values out. You can open a public share link on another device.
